Ganesh Chaturthi also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi is one of the important Hindu festivals celebrated throughout India with a great devotion. This day is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesh, the elephant-headed son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. People bring idols of Lord Ganesh to their homes and do worship.
Shree Siddhivinayak Mitra Mandal is a society that connects people and we work hard together as a team for the betterment of the society which includes more of social activities and we are always active in whatever we do.
Our mitra mandal started in 2002. Our main motto was to get together an do some social activities for soceity to make aware about cleanliness it started with 4 kids with small 1ft plastick ganesh idol and now we have more then 200 members with a huge society and we do worship together and make sure to keep every one happy.
Later we saw the harm that we cause to the environment with our festivities. Most Ganpati idols are made with plaster of Paris (POP), ie. calcium sulfate and hemihydrate. This substance takes many months to fully dissolve in water. It also reduces the oxygen level in water, thus affecting marine life. POP also makes the water acidic and is responsible for leaving behind harmful chemicals and substances such as mercury and lead. Aside from this, there is air pollution caused by crackers and noise pollution caused by loud music and drums.
We started with eco friendly pure clay ganesh idol and we do the visarjan in the small tank and then we spread the water and sand to the trees and grass in order to save the nature and environment.
